A mountain flight is an hour in a fixed-wing aircraft along the Himalayan range, and it does not land. It leaves Kathmandu early, flies east parallel to the mountains, turns at Everest and comes back — and it is the cheapest and simplest way there is to see the highest mountains on earth at eye level.
Every seat is a window seat. The aircraft used for these are configured so that nobody sits in the middle, and passengers are called forward one at a time to the cockpit for the view directly ahead. Along the way the crew name the peaks as they pass: Langtang, Dorje Lakpa, Gauri Shankar, Cho Oyu, Lhotse, and Everest itself, close enough to make sense of.
It goes early for a reason. The air is clearest shortly after dawn and cloud builds through the morning, so departures are scheduled between six and eight and the whole thing is finished before most people have had breakfast.
