Travel Insurance

Cover that includes high-altitude trekking and helicopter evacuation.

Ordinary travel insurance very often excludes trekking above 4,000 metres, which is precisely the altitude where you are most likely to need it. We arrange policies that do not.

What the cover has to include

Three things, and a policy missing any of them is not adequate for a Nepal trek. Cover to the maximum altitude of your itinerary, not a generic limit — Annapurna Base Camp reaches 4,130 metres, Kailash goes far higher. Helicopter evacuation, which is the only realistic way off a trail in an emergency and which is billed in thousands of dollars. And repatriation.

Read the altitude clause

This is the line that catches people. Many policies cover "trekking" but cap it at 3,000 or 4,000 metres, and some exclude it entirely once a guide is involved or once the route is described as a climb. Send us the policy wording before you travel and we will read that clause with you against your actual itinerary.

Why we insist

Travel insurance is a condition of booking on every trekking and high-altitude trip we run, and we would require it even if it were not standard practice. An uninsured evacuation is a bill that arrives at the worst possible moment, to a family who cannot plan for it.

Tell us the trip and we will tell you what the policy must cover.
